Creating video content is essential for your business and we are going to share some key tips on how to do that. If you spend much time on social media, you’re bound to run across Gary Vaynerchuk sooner or later. A prominent entrepreneur, author, speaker, and Internet personality, Gary Vaynerchuk (more commonly known as simply Gary Vee) has been called “a master of producing highly engaging and inspirational bite-sized content on social media.”
One of the things Gary Vee is most known for on social media is his video content. And, with close to 3 million subscribers on YouTube and 8.5 million followers on Instagram, he’s clearly doing something right. So let’s take a look at what makes his videos so compelling and how you can create video content like Gary Vee.
Want to know what Gary Vee thinks about video content? Here it is, straight from the man himself: “The single most important strategy in content marketing today is video… No matter what you’re selling, no matter what your company does, if you don’t have a video marketing strategy for the biggest video platforms, you are going to lose.”
So many business owners are nervous to even start creating content, unsure where to begin, so they just keep putting it off. But that’s the worst thing you can do. It’s time to start! Sure, you can hire a full-service video production team to take everything off your plate. But if you’re not ready to make that jump, start with your smartphone camera. Just take some videos and start posting them on social media. Something is better than nothing, and starting is the most important step.
Watch through some of Gary Vee’s videos and you’ll notice that he doesn’t use many flashy visuals to grab his audience’s attention. Instead, Gary is a huge proponent of starting your video with a “hook.” Gary Vee has said that a hook is “the first few seconds of any video you make. The goal here is to start off with a moment that’ll make people intrigued enough to keep watching the video.” So take your cue from Gary Vee and make those first few seconds of your video count.
If you look at Gary Vee’s social media account (especially Instagram), you’ll quickly see that he has A LOT of videos. In fact, he has so much video content that you may even wonder how he could possibly have enough time to film it all. Well, there’s a secret to Gary Vee’s video content strategy… many of those videos are pulled from one long-form piece of content. He’ll take one long video, like an hour-long keynote or podcast video or vlog, and split the video into lots of little chunks. Then he’ll take those short videos, give them a snappy headline, and voila. One piece of content becomes 15 or 20 pieces of content.
This strategy is why we love to spend a half-day or full-day shooting videos for our clients that can then be broken up into bite-sized videos for social media. We can spend a few hours shooting a handful of videos, and our clients end up with enough micro-content to last them for months on social media. Work smarter, not harder!
Now let’s not get too turned around here. Nobody’s going to watch your video if it’s grainy and shaky and looks like it’s straight out of the ’90s. But Gary Vee has said that people often overthink and overvalue the production of their message, to the point where they end up not even creating any video content. Your video content doesn’t have to be perfect. You can raise brand awareness, provide value to your audience, and make a lasting impact with simple pieces of video content.
